Now this game is in very early stages and there wasn’t a great deal available as they were still creating it. Oh yes, we were in control of our own ant colony. Empires of the Undergrowth decided to go to a much, much smaller scale and replaces buildings, war torn sites and soldiers with nests, tunnels and ants. Instead of being modern or futuristic or even historically based. A simple RTS (at the moment) but with a twist I’ve not seen since that game whose name escapes me. The first game in my Rezzed adventure was Empires of the Undergrowth by Slug Disco Studios. It’s safe to say I’m a more casual RTS player. I’m always trying to find a new RTS that doesn’t use it’s HUD and excessive amount of abilities to scare me off. Whether we’re hardcore players of just enjoy the occasional bit of C&C. They are fun, but they are also important because the design of the spaces we spend time in have profound effects on how we feel, think and move.A lot of us are familiar with RTS. The video games in this list create space to notice, reflect and try your hand at architecture.

Then there are games like The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild, Biomutant, Enslaved or The Last Of Us that drop you in a once-great but now ruined architecture.Īlong with these pre-built spaces, there are also games that invite you to affect and rebuilt the architecture of a world. Others, like The Witcher, Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess and Eastshade, create their own cities and buildings. Some, like Assassin's Creed, Grand Theft Auto and Forza Horizon recreate virtual versions of familiar places. Video games mirror and magnify this built environment in different ways.

Our homes, offices, shopping malls, cathedrals, stations, bridges and even public toilets have all been designed. We spend our lives in buildings every day. These games, together with some screen-free time in the lead up to sleep are a great way for children to develop healthy bedtime habits.

Some, like Flower or Alto’s Adventure, create calm with simple repetition of tasks and process in a world where the sun slowly sets. Others, like Frost or Lifelike, offer gentle, tranquil interactions to still the mind and escape the world. Some of them are ideal to play right before sleeping and even let you turn off the screen to listen along when you are finished interacting. These are playful ways to calm the brain, ease anxiety and generally get little heads ready to rest. It creates mindfulness experiences for children to “enjoy calmer day times and quicker bedtimes”. While these offer a wide range of benefits, it can be good to transition to something less energetic as the day draws to a close.
